Latest incident of ATAC bus self-combusting took place in Rome suburb of EUR.
A Rome city bus burst into flames near the Laurentina metro station in the EUR district of Rome at around 01.00 on 25 January.
The driver, who escaped unharmed, was returning the empty bus to the depot when the incident occurred.
It is the latest bus belonging to city transport company ATAC to self-combust, while in service, with
several cases already this year.
ATAC is launching yet another investigation into the cause of the fire on the bus which served the 723 route and had been in service for 12 years.
The Faisa Sicel trade union, which represents ATAC employees, told Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica that it was "fed up" putting the lives of its drivers and passengers in danger, and called on the city to provide new buses.
