51/A: Aperti per ferie
24 July-2 Aug. Under the title "Open for holidays", this ten-day event takes place in the beautiful, ivy-clad surroundings of Via Margutta 51. The summer festival features 19 separate appointments including concerts, workshops for children, exhibitions, theatre performances and DJ sets.
Number 51 Via Margutta was made famous in the hugely-popular film Roman Holiday whose character Joe Bradley, played by Gregory Peck, lived in the building. Today it houses the S. Alessio regional centre for the blind, and the festival gives particular emphasis to visitors who are visually impaired.
A focal piece is an interactive installation entitled Scopri, Odora, Leggi (Discover, Smell, Read) featuring a system of chairs, shelves, tables and flower-beds full of aromatic plants, becoming an open-air, naturally-scented library.
The event is held by Open City Roma — the cultural association which organises the annual Open House Roma initiative — in collaboration with the city.
