Tucked between Termini train station and the Campo Verano cemetery, S. Lorenzo is originally a working-class neighbourhood which was the only area of Rome bombed during world war two. Today the district is synonymous with nightlife, street art and counter-culture, and is home to numerous artist collectives and art studios.

Its diverse range of bars and restaurants range between the trendy and cheap – often both – and its proximity to La Sapienza university means the area has a large student population.
