19 ATAC buses and four Roma TPL buses catch fire in Rome so this year.
Rome's public transport company ATAC is carrying out an investigation after one of its buses caught fire while in service in the Bufalotta area of the city on 24 September.There was nobody injured in the incident, which occurred on Via Antamoro, and firefighters brought the flames under control quickly.
"The vehicle, which did not suffer serious damage, had been in service since 2003", ATAC said in a statement.
The incident brings to 23 the number of Rome buses to have burst into flames so far this year, according to Italian newspaper La Repubblica: 19 belonging to the ATAC fleet and four belonging to suburban bus company Roma TPL.
This figure excludes fires on buses operated by regional coach service Cotral.
