4.1 magnitude earthquake in central Italy
Epicentre was four km from Norcia.
A 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck the central Italian regions of Umbria, Le Marche and Lazio at 02.02 on 1 September, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology has announced.
The quake occurred at a depth of eight km and its epicentre was four km away from Norcia (Umbria), 13 from Arquata del Tronto (Le Marche) and 14 from Accumoli (north Lazio).
The earthquake, which was felt faintly in some north Rome districts, was followed by up to 38 aftershocks, according to local media. There have been no reports of casualties or structural damage.
The quake struck the same region that was devastated by powerful earthquakes in 2016 and 2017.
