Adoration of the Christ restored.
A famous round painting of the Adoration of the Christ child, which has puzzled art historians for more than a century, has been restored and put back on display at the Borghese Gallery in Rome. At the end of the 18th century the painting was listed in the Borghese family inventory as being by Raphael, but over the years the attribution changed several times. The restoration of the painting has revealed that it was painted by Fra' Bartolomeo, a Florentine painter and contemporary of Raphael, who entered the religious order of the Domenicans in 1500.
This beautiful painting has been restored thanks to sponsorship from the Federazione Italiana Tabaccai, which is calling the restored work a Christmas present to Italy.
