Alitalia salvage approved.
The transport commission of the European Union (EU) has approved Italys plan for the salvage of its troubled airline Alitalia . It has now completed an inquiry into the proposed 1,2 billion recapitalisation and is satisfied that the new capital will come from banks and private investors, rather than from the state. More state subsidies would be a violation of EU regulations. News of the favourable findings, which are due to be published formally by 25 May, have boosted Alitalia share prices.
