American Academy director
The new director of the privately funded American Academy in Rome has been announced as Christopher Celenza, who is currently a professor in the department of German and Romance languages and literatures at Johns Hopkins University. He will succeed Professor Carmela Vircillo Franklin, who has spent five years in the post, in the summer of this year.
The American Academy offers its coveted annual Rome Prize scholarships to up to 30 fellows every year, to enable research in the fine arts and humanities. Celenza, who will be the academy
