A 21-year-old American student who went missing in Rome on the night of 19 February has been found dead inside a railway tunnel between S. Pietro and Trastevere, after apparently being hit by a train.
John Durkin was a student in a study-abroad programme in Rome through Trinity College and was last seen in the early hours of 20 February at a Campo de' Fiori bar.
“It is with much sadness that the Durkin family informs you of the loss of John Nolen Durkin and thanks everyone for their support during the past few days,” his family said in a statement.
