An Easter for tourists.
The Roman airports authority, Aeroporti di Roma, which runs Romes Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, has registered an increase of ten per cent in the passengers arriving this year compared to the Easter weekend of 2004. They estimate that in the two-week period from 20 March to 3 April, 1.7 million passengers will pass through the two airports, of whom more than 150,000 will have used low-cost airlines arriving at Ciampino airport.
Tourist attractions such as museums were open the whole holiday period, as well as bars and restaurants, but shops were closed on Sunday and on Monday, even those in the centre of the city.
