Anti-Trump protests outside US embassy in Rome
Sit-in and vigil on Via Veneto in protest over Trump travel ban.
Two separate protests against President Donald Trump's order restricting entry into the US took place outside the US embassy on Rome's Via Veneto on 2 February.
The demonstrations, both peaceful, were in protest over Trump's executive order banning refugees and citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries – Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen – from entering the US.
The first protest, a sit-in at 17.00, was organised by CILD, Colazione per le libertà e i diritti civili, while the second one, a candlelight vigil at 20.00, was organised by the American Expats for Positive Change.
Protesters at both events held placards with messages such as No Ban No Walls and #NoMuslimBan as well as a poster reading Let Them In, painted by Rome-based Irish artist and activist Michelle Rogers (above).
