Gardening enthusiasts will enjoy the annual autumn horticultural sale at the beautiful Landriana estate in Ardea, 40 km south of Rome.
From 5-7 October the Giardini della Landriana, established by Marchesa Lavinia Taverna and laid out by leading English landscape artist Russell Page, will host displays of plants, bulbs, books, pots and garden furniture and equipment. This year Landriana places a particular focus on ecological sustainability.
Plants from some of the foremost nurseries in Italy and abroad are presented at the event which also provides gardeners with expert advice on planning gardens, dealing with and recognising plant diseases, and tips on cultivating orchids and building successful water gardens.
It is also possible to take a guided tour of the gardens which are spread out over ten hectares, and dogs are permitted once they are kept on the leash. The gardens are accessible by train on the Rome-Nettuno line (station Campo di Carne).
