Lazio region offers €150 bicycle grant to Rome commuters with yearly pass.
The Lazio Region is offering a €150 "eco-bonus" to holders of Rome's yearly public transport pass to help them purchase a folding bicycle.
The offers extends to holders of the annual €250 Metrebus card, valid on Rome's public transport network, and the Lazio Metrebus pass which is valid on public transport across the Lazio region and costs up to €688.
There is no additional fee for taking a folding bicycle on board public transport in Rome or Lazio.
The grant is a "concrete measure" designed to encourage sustainable mobility, according to Lazio Region president Nicola Zingaretti, and is in line with best practice in other European capitals.
The Lazio Region has also announced that, from 2017, there will be a discount of 50 per cent on the yearly Bici in Treno pass. The annual card, which allows holders to board regional trains with regular non-folding bicycles, will be reduced from its current price of €120 to €60 next year.
