US senate confirms Trump's nomination for the Holy See.
Callista Gingrich is the new US ambassador-designate to the Holy See following the US senate's 70-23 approval of her 19 May nomination by President Trump.
As ambassador, Gingrich's principal responsibility will be to serve as the liason between the Holy See and Washington.
The ambassador designate is the former CEO of multimedia and consulting company Gingrich Productions, which produces children’s books and conservative documentaries. She is described as a devout Catholic and has sung for two decades in the professional choir at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C.
The new ambassador will be joined in Rome by her high-profile husband Newt Gingrich, the former US House Speaker and Trump ally whom she married in 2000.
Her appointment as ambassador-designate follows the recent arrival in Rome of fellow Trump nominee Lewis Eisenberg, the new US ambassador to Italy and San Marino.
