Car-free Sunday in Rome
Rome bans traffic on 8 December to reduce smog
There is a complete ban on private vehicles circulating within Rome's fascia verde (green belt) on Sunday 8 December from 07.30-12.30 and from 16.30-20.30.
The ban affects the movement of traffic inside the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA) ring road, an area which constitutes the bulk of the city.
The measures are being taken to reduce the capital's high smog levels.
Certain categories of vehicles are exempt from the ban, for full list see the city website.
