Fleet to expand from 300 to 500
More than 20,000 motorists signed up to the capital's Car2go service in its first month, with about 700 new registered drivers each day, according to Rome's mayor Ignazio Marino who presented the data on 11 April.
The fleet is currently composed of 300 environmentally-friendly Smart cars, with plans to expand to 500 according to the city.
Describing car and bike-sharing as "crucial" to the city, Marino said "The reduction of private cars is an urgent priority for people's health and for our urban spaces."
