Celebrating St Anthony Abbot.
If you missed the mass for the blessing of the animals at the church of S. Eusebio al Esquilino in Rome (see articles section for more details) you might like to go along to another mass to celebrate the feast of St Anthony Abbot (the feast day is 17 January) which will be held in the Appia Antica regionale park on Sunday 22 January. The mass at 11.30 will be held at the Valli della Caffarella
(entrance from Largo Tacchi Venturi) with the blessing of the animals including horses, sheep and cows from farms within the park.
Following the mass there will be music and activities for children with visits to the farm animals and guided tours to the protected areas of the park.
There will also be a special mass and celebrations for St Anthony Abbot in Tarquinia on Sunday 22 January. The mass will be celebrated at 11.00 and at 16.00 there will be a procession of traditional horsemen who work with the herds "I butteri", who will follow a float with a live representation of St Anthony. The evening will progress with a raffle and games. For information: Agenzia di Soggiorno dell'Etruria Meridionale tel 0766 856384.
