Centre-left sweeps Rome.
The local councils of the 19 municipi of Rome have all gone to the centre-left in the local elections of 28 and 29 May. Most were won by over 60 per cent with the only close call being Municipio XX around the Cassia north of Rome an upmarket residential area of the city.
In the mayoral race centre-left and incumbent mayor Walter Veltroni triumphed over centre-right challenger Gianni Alemanno with 61.6 per cent of the vote.
