Colosseum illuminated for Syria
Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno will switch on a red illumination of the Colosseum at 21.00 on Friday 14 September in a signal of solidarity for the tragedy being played out in Syria.
It is Rome’s way of adhering to the “Red light” initiative of A.G.I.R.E.– Agenzia Italiana Risposte alle Emergenze – to throw light on major humanitarian emergencies.
Florence, Naples, Turin and Catanzaro will also take part in the demonstration of solidarity.
Previous occasions on which the Colosseum was illuminated include the visit of a delegation from China for the year of Chinese culture in Italy in October 2010, and the “Colosseum on Fire” spectacle in September 2010.
