Controversy continues over statue of John Paul II
The Vatican has distanced itself from the ongoing controversy surrounding the new bronze statue of John Paul II in Piazza Cinquecento in front of Termini station. In an attempt to clarify the situation, Monsignor Pasquale Iacobone, head of Art and Faith of the Pontifical Council for Culture, has released the original design by the sculptor Oliviero Rainaldi.
The sketch is markedly different to what was unveiled on 19 May by the mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno and the Vatican
