Cuts threaten MAXXIs future.
The completion of the MAXXI Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo in Via Guido Reni is under threat after government funding cuts of 10 million. Designed by Anglo-Iranian architect Zaha Hadid, the MAXXI was due to be completed in 2005. Pio Baldi, the museums director, told La Repubblica that the cuts meant work on the building site would have to cease. But he was hopeful the government would find a way to restore the money since simply keeping the building site closed would cost 300,000 per month. The museum project was initially allocated 120 billion to cover all costs.
