Dalai Lama in Rome for honorary degree.
The Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso XIV, will be in Rome on Saturday 14 November to receive an honorary degree in biology from the Roma Tre University. The Dalai Lama is both the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and the head of the Tibetan government-in-exile. He won the Nobel Prize for peace in 1989 and has already received over 40 honorary degrees worldwide. The ceremony in Rome will take place at 09.30 in the university's faculty of literature and philosophy, Via Ostiense 234 and will end with a question and answer session between 11.30 and 12.00. A symposium in the Dalai Lama's honour will take place in the afternoon from 14.00 entitled "The Neurophysiology of Mind/Pain and the Consciousness of Pain".
