David returns.
Michelangelo's famous statue of David in the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence is on show again after two years of restoration. The statue was subjected to ten years of research by more than 33 scientific institutes around the world before the work began. The final restoration, which consisted of gentle cleaning using distilled water, has returned the statue to its original brilliance.
The restoration has been paid for by two foreign organizations, the American Friends of Florence and the Dutch Ars Longa Stichting.
