Donkeys to the rescue.
The province of Treviso has bought six small donkeys to crop the verges on the provincial roads and roundabouts. The animals will save the province a considerable sum since cutting the grass mechanically costs 100 million a year.
The donkeys, which cost 346 each, have yet to be named and a competition to find names for them will be held for local children. Meanwhile the animals have been marked "TV", the initials on the number plates of all vehicles from Treviso.
