There is potential for traffic chaos in Rome on Monday 9 September as a result of public transport strikes planned by Rome bus company ATAC and regional coach company Cotral.
The scheduled double strike action, which coincides with the reopening of the capital's schools, will involve ATAC employees going on strike from 08.30-12.30, and Cotral workers striking from 08.30-16.30.
The strikes have been called by public transport trade unions including Filt Cgil Roma and Lazio, whose secretary Alessandro Capitani cited multiple issues involved in the disputes, including the non-payment of performance bonuses.
The trade unions are currently negotiating with city and regional authorities to try and come to an agreement in order to avert the strike.
