Festa della Repubblica in Rome
The Festa della Repubblica is celebrated in Rome and across Italy each year on 2 June. The public holiday commemorates the June referendum in 1946 when Italians voted to exile the monarchy in favour of a republican form of government.
This year the celebration coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, and over 80 foreign delegations including many heads of state are expected to attend the military parade on Via dei Fori Imperiali.
