Free buses for the over-70s.
Public transport will be free for all residents of Rome and Lazio over 70 or who are war invalids and who have an annual income of 15,000 or less for a trial period, in December and January.
To have access to this free service, anyone who is eligible should fill out a form available at metro stations, bus stations, council centres for the elderly, council offices, ticket offices belonging to Atac, the city bus company, and on line at www.atac.roma.it and at www.comune.roma.it. Anyone who has problems filling in the form can ask for help at the city council call centre tel. 060606, and anyone who is unable to obtain the form need only carry a simple declaration which includes their name, surname, date and place of birth, residence and that the holder has an income of less than 15,000 and is eligible to take advantage of free public transport in the city.
According to ATAC, the Roman public transport operators, there are 338,000 over 70s living in the Italian capital, some 73,000 of which use the bus and metro network on a monthly basis.
