On weekends 12-13 December and again on 19-20 December there are free guided tours of the archaeological area of Largo Argentina in the centre of Rome.

Tours start outside the Teatro Argentina at 15.00, 16.00, 17,00 and 18.00. On the two Sundays there are also tours at 10.30 and 11.30. Booking is essential on tel. 060608.

This archaeological area was unearthed during building development and road improvements in the mid-1920s. Subsequent excavations discovered four important temples from the mid to late Roman republican era.

Today the area, which is usually closed to the public but which can be seen from the surrounding streets, is best known for its stray cat sanctuary.
