Galleria Colonna to re-open its doors
The Galleria Colonna shopping complex opposite Piazza Colonna on Via del Corso in Rome will re-open on 4 Dec after years of renovation. The arcade has been restored to its original grandeur through a combination of public and private finance, and boasts a high-tech air-conditioning system and soundproofing, along with new security measures. Among the attractions on offer will be a large Feltrinelli bookstore, a branch of the La Rinascente department store dedicated to young fashion, and an outlet of the cheap and trendy Spanish fashion retailer Zara. Other big names set to open in the complex include Prada, Guess and Mandarina Duck. To mark the opening there will be a sound and lights show entitled "Valzer di Luce" on 4 Dec at 19.00, and extended opening hours on 5 and 6 Dec from 10.00-24.00. On 7 Dec the gallery will be re-named in honour of the late actor Alberto Sordi, the Roman star of films such as "An American in Rome", at a special ceremony. An exhibition at the Museo di Roma in Palazzo Braschi documents the history of the gallery; Via S. Pantaleo 10, tel. 0667108346, 09.00-19.00 until 18 Jan 2004.
