Gelato World Tour in Rome
The Gelato World Tour takes place in Rome's Pincio area between Villa Borghese and Piazza del Popolo, from 3-5 May.
The event, which is being held in eight cities across five continents, showcases high-quality, artisan ice-cream made using the best ingredients and local products. In addition to delicious icecreams, visitors can learn the secrets behind the recipes.
Leading ice-cream makers present flavours that combine tradition with innovation, and the audience can watch the production of ice-cream before being encouraged to taste the end result.
The public can also participate in ice-cream courses taught by instructors from the Carpigiani Gelato University, and discover the history of ice-cream at the Gelato Museum.
In each host country the best 16 ice-cream makers will be voted for by the public and a panel of professional judges, as they battle to be selected for the "Artisan Gelato Olympics".
The top three will represent Italy in the Gran Finale in Rimini in September 2014, where they will compete for the title of "World's Best Gelatiere".
