Giant mural tribute to Jeeg Robot in Rome suburb
Rome street artist Solo paints mural of Miwa in Tor Bella Monaca.
A giant mural featuring the character Miwa from cult 1970s manga cartoon series Steel Jeeg (screened in Italy in the 1980s as Jeeg Robot d'acciaio) has appeared on a building in the disadvantaged east Roman suburb Tor Bella Monaca. The mural was painted by noted Rome street artist Solo as part of a project organised by 999Contemporary, the non-profit cultural association behind successful street art projects in other Roman suburbs including M.A.G.R. in Marconi and Big City Life in Tor Marancia.
Solo said his work was also in homage to the award-winning 2015 movie Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot, whose director Gabriele Mainetti filmed some scenes in Tor Bella Monaca.
The mural can be found on the gable end of block R8 on Largo Ferruccio Mengaroni. For more information on street art in the capital see Wanted in Rome's guide to street art.
