Italian commuters.
Every day, one in two Italians commute, whether by car, train, bus or tram. According to a survey by the Italian statistics institute, Istat , 26 million people travel every day from one Italian city to another. Two thirds travel for work, the rest for study, covering on average 40 kms per
day. Many complain the service is not worth the fare, and some protest simply by not buying a ticket. In Lombardy, Veneto, Piedmont and Tuscany, however, commuters can claim a partial reimbursement for poor levels of service, including delays and train malfunctions.
