Italian opera theatres affected by strikes
Musicians and technicians working at opera theatres and other music venues across the country have gone on strike in protest over changes to the financing and management of state-supported opera houses and other music foundations, creating disruptions to programmes across the country.
The protest has been called by trades unions in response to an emergency decree passed by the government at the end of April to address the financial difficulties experienced by many organisations working in the cultural sector. Critics are unhappy about alleged cuts to workers
