Italy's truck drivers disrupt essential services.
On Tuesday evening prime minister Romano Prodi ordered striking lorry drivers in Italy back to work, but drivers interviewed on the main evening television news were defiant, saying that they would remain on strike until Friday as initially planned.
Long lines formed outside petrol stations on Tuesday afternoon and shelves were beginning to empty in super markets and shops, although there were no signs of panic buying.
