Labour day concert
The traditional concert on 1 May in Piazza S. Giovanni in Rome is back again this year. Seven hours of free live music from Italian and international artists attract hundreds of thousands of spectators every year. The line-up includes Police drummer Stewart Copeland, English band Chumbawamba and Italian groups Vibrazioni and Caparezza. The concert will also include a tribute to the Genoese singer Fabrizio de Andr, and a section dedicated to the traditional Taranta music and dance from Italy's Puglia region.
On Sat 1 May, the area around the Basilica of S. Giovanni will be closed to traffic, buses will be deviated and the metro stop S. Giovanni will be closed. Metros and trains will be running a normal Sunday schedule, while buses will run 08.30-13.00 and 16.30-21.00. For information tel. 060606, or see www.primomaggio.com.
