Lady Susana Walton. A Tribute
On 21 March 2010 Lady Susana Walton passed away peacefully at her home on the island of Ischia at the age of 83. Lady Walton was the owner and creator of La Mortella, private gardens located in Forio, Ischia. She was mentioned in the article about Ischia that appeared in Wanted in Rome on 31 March, which went to press before her death.
Lady Walton was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1926, and married English composer Sir William Walton in 1948. The couple bought a piece of land in Ischia and began creating their garden with the help of British landscape architect Russell Page. Page helped her design the grounds, but the realisation of the project, including the choice of plants, was Lady Walton
