Liberation monument unveiled
A new monument dedicated to those who died during the liberation of Rome from Nazi occupation in 1944 was unveiled on 4 June in Piazza Venezia. The ceremony took place on the 62nd anniversary of the Allies arrival in the city. The monument depicts a Roman woman embracing a soldier in gratitude and it replaces a previous, more modest plaque in a flowerbed across from Trajans column.
