The ZTL, the limited traffic zones in the historic centre of Rome, S. Lorenzo and Trastevere, will be closed to private traffic on Friday and Saturday nights beginning Friday 7 October from 23.00 03.00. The closure, which was imposed experimentally during the summer months, will now be permanent. It has been welcomed by the residents' associations in the centre, which have campaigned for the reduction of noise levels, particularly in the most popular central squares where tourists and young people congregate to eat and drink until the early hours. However restaurant and bar owners in the closed zones are unhappy with the new restrictions which, they claim, damage their business.
