The nocturnal flight pattern of seagulls in Rome has been captured in a long-exposure image by Gabriel Bouys, the head photographer at the Rome bureau of French news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The spectacular image reveals the birds' flight paths – which appear in wisps of almost golden light – reminiscent of the flight paths of aircraft photographed using the long-exposure method.
The technique involves using a long-duration shutter speed to capture the stationary elements of the scene while rendering visible its moving elements.
