Medusa restored.
Berninis celebrated bust of the head of Medusa is again on display at Romes Capitoline Museums after four months of cleaning and examination. Its exact dating is problematical, but it is believed to have been sculpted in the last years of the 1630s or the beginning of the 1640s, and was donated to the museums in March 1731 by the Marchese Francesco Bichi. The work will be on show in the Sala degli Arazzi until the end of the Christmas period, after which it will return to its normal position in the Sala delle Oche.
The restoration was financed by FIT (Federazione Italiana Tabaccai), and is part of the project FIT per lArte e la Cultura. For further information, see .
