Missionary museum opens in Rome
After an extensive renovation programme which lasted six years, the 1,900sqm Propaganda Fide Missionary Museum has opened at its headquarters: the Vatican's Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples near Piazza di Spagna. For almost 400 years the congregation has overseen the vast global deployment of its religious missionaries.
The museum's collection comprises Italian paintings and sculpture as well as miscellaneous objects brought back to Rome over the centuries from missionaries around the world, many revealing the interaction between Christianity and new cultures.
