Rome police confirm English-speaking girl is not Madeleine McCann.
An English-speaking homeless girl living rough in the Campo Marzio area of central Rome has been identified by police as 21-year-old Embla Jauhojärvi from Sweden.
The fair-skinned, blue-eyed woman was recognised by her father who saw her photo on social media in Stockholm. He said that Embla suffers from Asperger syndrome and that he has been trying to track her down since she left for Italy in May.
The confirmation of the woman's identity and age has ended speculation in the British media that she may have been Madeleine McCann, the English toddler who disappeared in Portugal in 2003 and today would be 13 years old.
Prior to her identification Embla was also linked to other missing persons cases including Amanda Adlai who was abducted in Michigan in 2008, and today would be aged 15, and Maria-Brigitte Henselmann who disappeared from Germany in 2013, and would now be 14.
