National bicycle day in Italy
9 May is national bicycle day, when Italians will be encouraged to abandon their cars and take to their bikes as an alternative and environmentally friendly means of transport.
The day is an initiative of the environment ministry, in partnership with and local councils. For programme details, including a list of historic centres, archaeological sites and other areas open for cyclists, see the dedicated webpage on the ministry
