1,330 parking spaces to be created over Termini train platforms.
A major construction project to create a three-storey car park over the platforms of Rome's central Termini Station has begun and is scheduled for completion in 2020.
The first stage of the complex engineering scheme, which is being undertaken by Italian construction company Salini and funded with €60 million by Grandi Stazioni (Gruppo FS), is underway over platform 1.
Once complete, the facility will provide parking spaces for more than 1,330 cars over the train station, with vehicle access from the adjoining Via Marsala.
By 2020 the amount of parking spaces at Termini will increase from the current 275 (230 in Piazza dei Cinquecento and 45 on Via Marsala) to more than 1,600.
