John Ochsendorf succeeds Kimberly Bowes as AAR director.
Dr John Ochsendorf has been named the 23rd director of the American Academy in Rome.
Ochsendorf, a preservation engineer, historian and educator, succeeds Kimberly Bowes who returns to the University of Pennsylvania after her three-year term in Rome.
Ochsendorf is known for his research on historical structures, and for using architecture and engineering to study and restore ancient buildings.
Born in 1974, Ochsendorf takes up his new position at the American Academy in Rome on 1 July.
