New monument in Piazza Venezia.
A new monument will be erected in the gardens of Piazza Venezia in memory of those who died during the liberation of Rome from Nazi occupation. The work, created by sculptor Alessio Paternesi, will be placed where the current memorial stone stands in the gardens beside the Chiesa di S. Maria di Loreto. City authorities hope the opening ceremony will take place on 4 June, the 62nd anniversary of the liberation.
