New plans for Metro B1.
Following an early April announcement to prolong the Metro B1 line to Piazzale Jonio, in Prati Fiscali, city superintendent of transportation Mauro Calamante, together with Roma Metropolitane Spa, have decided to scrap plans for a station on Via Nomentana The station, which would have been at the intersection of Via XXI Aprile in the Villa Massimo part of the Nomentana, has been contested for months by local residents and business owners who complained of construction-related inconveniences.
Calamante has explained that due to complications at the construction site, work for the station would have run over budget and possibly delayed completion of the line, currently scheduled for 2011.
