New traffic arrangements at Tiburtina station
There will be new traffic arrangements in the area around Tiburtina station in northeast Rome starting 23 January as a result of building work for the new station for high-speed trains.
The exit from the Tangenziale Est ring road leading directly into Piazzale della Stazione Tiburtina in front of the station will be closed to traffic and drivers coming from S. Giovanni who want to reach the station will have to continue along the Tangenziale until the exit at Via Livorno, from where they will be able to turn back.
The stretch of side road running parallel to the Tangenziale Est between Ponte Lanciani and Via Tommasini in the direction of S. Giovanni will also be closed to all but residents due to work on a new underground bypass to relieve traffic flow in the area. Drivers arriving from Via Monti Tiburtini or Via Lanciani will be diverted onto Via Rasponi and Via Tommasini.
The new arrangements will remain in place until the end of 2010.
The works are part of an ambitious project to turn the existing mainline station at Tiburtina into the main hub for Italy
