New traffic measures around the Colosseum

Traffic cameras installed and road works continue near the Colosseum

Electronic signs will soon replace traffic police on Via dei Fori Imperiali, reminding motorists that no private traffic is allowed on the section between Largo Corrado Ricci at the end of Via Cavour and the Colosseum.

Traffic police have been stationed on that stretch of street since its closure to private traffic on 3 August.

The city also informs motorists that traffic cameras will be installed at Piazza del Colosseo and at Largo Corrado Ricci, with the entire system coming into effect between late October and the start of November.

Meanwhile works are continuing on nearby Via Merulana, where the concrete barriers between lanes are being replaced with granite kerbs. This will result in a number of night-time traffic restrictions in the area over the next six weeks, including the diversion of the 85, 87 and N10 buses in the evening.

The works are currently taking place from 23.30-04.00, but as of 28 October the work schedule will be earlier, from 20.30-04.00.
