New traffic signs in Rome

Drivers negotiating their way around Rome will be assisted by the installation of 11 new electronic information panels located strategically along the capital's busiest streets. Designed to assist the flow of traffic and to avoid congestion, the signs inform drivers about traffic jams, demonstrations, closed streets as well as advising of accidents ahead and general traffic conditions.

Joining the existing 53 signs, the first of which were erected in 1999, the 64 panels are all connected to a centralised network via Intelligent Transport System (ITS) which enables the city's central traffic office to update information in real time on a 24 hour basis.
